The beginning of hurricane season is a time when Floridians begin to prepare, before the hurricane warnings and watches begin to post. If you are new to Florida, review the Florida hurricane preparation list below and make sure you have what you need to make it through the power outages that always accompany hurricanes in Florida, even when the eye is miles away. Even a near miss can shut down ATMs and gas stations for days. And when a watch or warning is issued for your area, expect the staples like bottled water, breads and batteries to rapidly disappear from store shelves.
This Florida hurricane preparation list includes many actions you can take and items you can make sure you have on hand long before a hurricane watch or warning is issued in your area. The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st to November 30th each year. And if you purchase the non-perishable items and prepare your home and outdoor areas listed below, it will be much easier to be ready if hurricane conditions are expected near your area.
