In an update from Miami Air, a maintenance check was completed on the Boeing 737 two days before skidding off the runway at NAS Jax. In 2013, the aircraft had an extensive maintenance check, but the last documentation of major maintenance is from 2014.
According to the Aviation Safety website, this is the 17th hull-loss for Boeing 737-800 aircrafts. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in the accident at NAS Jax but out of those 17 hull-losses, there have been 588 fatalities reported.
